For now, I just want you to have a LOOK at the template files… That’s LOOK and DON’T TOUCH!

In ADMIN, click on PRESENTATION, and then THEME EDITOR. You’ll see a POP-UP menu with the available themes on it – the one you are using should already be selected.

Then, down the right hand side of the page, you’ll see ALL the files used in in that theme. Clicking on a file will open it in the editing box.

At this stage – DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING HERE!

Just LOOK! (can’t be any more obvious than that eh!!!)

If the PHP and HTML code you see totally confuses you… then certainly DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING :)

But if you are VERY careful, and know enough to be dangerous… you can edit any of the template files from here.

I prefer however to FTP/download the files to my computer and edit them locally with a TEXT EDITOR, and then upload them back to the web server… At least that way I keep a BACKUP copy of the original file… just in case something goes wrong.

While you are in the PRESENTATION area… click on the HEADER IMAGE AND COLOR tab. Here you can change the color of the font and image used in the default header. Try something other than that baby blue…

WordPress Classic Theme

Play with the CLASSIC theme too and look at any features there… (to change the theme, go into ADMIN, click PRESENTATION, then click on the theme you want).

Hint: When you are looking around at other WordPress sites… if you like the theme used, check the VIEW/SOURCE of the page – right up near the top there will be a link which identifies the local path to the theme directory / style sheet. Then do a Google search to track down where the theme’s home page might be. You might also find out some of the plug-ins that are installed by looking at the source code.
