Final Plug-Ins to Install

There’s just two more plugins to install…

WordPress.com Stats

WordPress.com Stats helps you tracks views, post/page views, referrers, and clicks. Requires a FREE WordPress.com API key (use the same key you got earlier for Akismet).

Simply upload the stats.php file to the plugins directory on your server. You’ll then be able to click through to your WordPress.com Blog Stats from the ADMIN welcome page.

WP-Print

Finally, if you want to help your visitors to EASILY print a post – without all the crap around it – then check out WP-Print which displays a printable version of your WordPress blog’s post/page.

Unzip the file, and then upload the print folder to your WP plugins directory – the default settings in OPTIONS/PRINT work fine without adjustment.

VERY IMPORTANT You WILL need to reactivate the permalink structure for WP-Print to work (or you’ll get a 404 error when you try to print). Go to OPTIONS/PERMALINKS and hit the UPDATE button.

You WILL ALSO need to edit your template files to make WP-Print work – make sure you follow the detailed USAGE instructions in the read me file. I edited the Single Post and Page Template files (from the default WP template) to make the print instructions appear at the TOP of the post… check it out now – look UP!

And remember, if you CHANGE to another template, you must also edit THOSE files to make it work there.

What now?

Go off and install these plug-ins and check out how they improve the appearance and function of your new blog.

Then come back for more from me… It’s time to start to play with a new template or two… Идея за подарък

Thanks for the tip on the WP-Print plugin. I’ve just installed it and like the print page it generates. I was surprised that it footnotes the links in the page, an excellent feature.
