Having often been accused of saying many random things – i.e. “That was random” – it comes as no surprise that I like to include random things on my web sites.

I’ve easily been able to do this in the past with cgi scripts, but this php stuff is all new to me so I’ve searched for a couple of places that can satisfy my random curiosity.

First up – I like the idea of including random images on my sites – in various places – because it gives my visitors something different to look at each time they return. It suggests that I’ve been busy updating things (when I haven’t). But it does help keep a “fresh” feel about a site.

So I was pleased when I found Matthew Mullenweg’s Random Image Script. It’s not a plugin as such, rather a php script that allows me to show a random image from a specified directory – and it’s called just like you’d call an image, through an image tag, which apparently means you can use it anywhere i.e. posts, pages, sidebars, headers etc. OK – it’s been around for years and I’m slow to discover it, but hey – if it works then I’m ecstatic! I’ll be playing with it soon…

And if you want even more random things on your pages like quotations, snippets of text, rotating banners, random past posts, etc., then you should visit Lorelle on WordPress for some fine suggestions and discussions about various plugins and techniques to try out.

Apparently there are tons of random content generating WordPress Plugins available… but these will do me for starters.

After all, I’m still only a newbie :)
